The driver's door has started making a sticky sound when it opens, and one lower corner of the rubber seal feels stiff. It still closes, so you can leave the weatherstripping alone until the first morning it freezes to the body. By then, pulling the handle can tear rubber that's already weakened. Work on the seals while the doors still open freely and the rubber is dry. Cleaning, checking the fit, and choosing the right treatment are separate steps. A glossy coating won't repair a split corner or fix a door that is rubbing the seal every time it closes. Clean the Seal and Its Contact Surface Together Dirt collects where the rubber meets the painted door opening, particularly along the lower edge and corners. Wiping only the visible face leaves grit in the contact area. Use mild soap and water with a soft cloth, then remove the residue and dry the surfaces thoroughly.
